Lawrence S. Lofgren
Attorney at Law
I've been practicing bankruptcy law in Seattle since 2003. My professional goals are to serve consumer bankruptcy clients, while expanding to other areas of law. I have a fair number of Spanish speaking clients, and from those contacts, I find I get a significant number of referrals.
To touch upon my background, I graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1988. I graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1992 and was admitted to practice law in Illinois in November of that year.
In 1994 I was hired by the the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois in Chicago as its Intake Director. At the ACLU, I gathered facts for major civil liberties cases. I also recruited, trained and supervised law student interns. At the ACLU, I became familiar with a wide range of legal problems and individual situations.
In 1997, I moved to Madrid, Spain and taught English classes to Spanish attorneys and corporate executives. After a year, I returned to the United States and was hired back as the Intake Director by the ACLU of Illinois. I started practicing consumer bankruptcy law in 1999.
Since 1999, I've worked for two major, multi-state bankruptcy firms: Macey & Aleman (Legal Helpers) of Chicago, Illinois; and Weinstein and Riley of Seattle. While new to Chicago, I also volunteered at the Legal Clinic for the Disabled and worked at a small law office in the mostly Spanish speaking Pilsen neighborhood.
By 2001, I was managing the very profitable Rockford, Illinois branch of the multi-state Chicago firm Macey, Chern and Diab. I worked in Chicago, but spent Fridays in Rockford, where I regularly appeared in court in the morning to aggressively represent Debtors in Chapter 13 cases. I also regularly attended Chapter 7 creditors' meetings in downtown Chicago and trained and supervised a team of attorneys at these meetings.
In 2003, I was offered a job at the Seattle firm of Weinstein and Riley where I represented major credit card companies and other creditors in U.S. Bankruptcy court and Washington State Court. I worked at Weinstein and Riley for two and a half years.
In 2006, I opened my own firm, The Law Office of Larry Lofgren. While building this practice, I was recruited by Macey and Aleman to manage their Seattle bankruptcy practice. After gaining experience filing hundreds of cases at this office, I accepted a position at the Law Offices of Jason Newcombe.
